Our Mission

BlackFeather Academy is a non-profit organization designed and dedicated to deliver conditioned martial arts instruction and peer support services to local youth of our community.
BlackFeather's goal is to provide a positive direction and hope by providing safe and structured activities which are designed to give youth healthy alternatives to the "street".

BlackFeather Academy provides at-risk youth the tools to develop physical and emotional discipline, positive morals, ethical behavior, confidence born of self-worth, a sense of belonging, and the mentality of contributing to the community in a postive manner.
BlackFeather provides it's training services at minimal charge to all who may otherwise not be able to participate.

Our History


BlackFeather models itslef on the Asian traditon of "Dojo", derived from the Japanese word meaning "seat of wisdom" and specifiaclly referring to a room or hall for the practice of martial arts.
Thai National Martial Arts is the centerpiece of the BlackFeather program.
The benefits of Martial Arts training with the program is recognized to include:

  • Improved problem solving
  • Improved self esteem
  • Enhanced reflexes and body coordination
  • Improved strength and aerobic conditioning

Kru Suuan and operator of Blackfeather Academy, Paul Barry is a certified USMTA Muay Thai Instructor, and has been instructing in multiple variants of Thai martial arts since 1992.
Former professional Mauy Thai fighter, kickboxer, american boxer, and current boxing trainer, Paul's passion is passing down his knowlege to kids and youth.

A student of Thai Arjarns Tony Moore, Mikhal Caldwell, and Kevin Jakubs for over 23 years.

He strongly believes in living a principled lifestyle and incorporates that into his daily instruction.
